First, decide the StarkNet network you wish to run on. You will need access to a trusted Ethereum full node that matches the StarkNet network:

Ethereum mainnet for StarkNet mainnet,
or Goerli Ethereum for StarkNet testnet.
The easiest way is to setup an account with an Ethereum node service such as Alchemy or Infura. Once you have an account setup, take note of the Ethereum RPC url for the network you need.

How do I run a Pathfinder node?

Pathfinder acts as a trusted source of StarkNet data. Each node indepedently verifies the data it receives and ensures that it matches the proofs submitted on Ethereum. In this way, you can trust the data it provides without having to trust the StarkNet gateway or StarkWare at all.

It can also be a fun first step into some of the more technical aspects underlying StarkNet. Feedback and bug reports are valuable so every node runner implicitly helps grow pathfinder and StarkNet!



Why should I run a Pathfinder node?

pathfinder is pretty light ito baseline resources required. The one exception is disk space. pathfinder requires:

CPU: 2 cores
RAM: 1 GB
disk space requirements
pathfinder currently only has a single mode - archive mode. This means it stores all StarkNet data ever created - and this is quite a lot. More modes will be added in the future to lessen this requirement, but for now the following is a rough guide:

pathfinder requires 400MB of disk space for every 1000 blocks
Bear in mind that you should account for the StarkNet networks block rate as well. As a safe number for the while at least, we would currently (2022-12-16) suggest at least:

100 GB for mainnet
500 GB for testnet


What resources are required to run a Pathfinder node?

There are no rewards for running a node. StarkNet is still centralized - this means there is no consensus mechanism and therefore no way to earn rewards.



Are there rewards for running a Pathfinder node?

Pathfinder don’t represent a specific account on StarkNet and this is therefore not possible. If you want your wallet to use your specific pathfinder instance for data then you will have to ask your wallet provider if / how that is possible.
